mom's pecan-cinnamon ring

if you want something that will get your kids up in the morning, bake these pullaparts!  they smell fantastic and they're covered in ooey gooey sticky nutty caramel.  it's a traditional family recipe that my mom would make for every holiday (like easter!) or church general conference morning.  they're easy because you can make them the night before and bake them the next morning.  i'm not claiming any health benefit by eating them, though, just pure joy from rib-stickin', finger-lickin' goodness. mom's pecan-cinnamon ring 1/2 to 1 cup chopped pecans 18 frozen dinner rolls (Rhodes) 1 (3oz) package butterscotch pudding (not instant) 1/2 cup butter 3/4 cup brown sugar 3/4 tsp cinnamon grease the bottom and sides of a bundt pan.  sprinkle nuts evenly in bottom of pan.  place frozen rolls on the nuts and sprinkle the dry pudding on top.  melt the butter and combine it with the brown sugar and cinnamon.  pour this mixture over...

honey oatmeal bread

i can now say that i am a true bread snob.  i have a bosch.  doesn't that make you a bread snob immediately?  i even skipped sacrament meeting sunday just to make some bread.  i used this recipe, using the molasses as a sweetener, and it was mighty good!  i tried out this oatmeal recipe a while back and i really love it too.  it comes from the brown eyed baker website but it only makes one loaf.  one loaf!  we blow through one loaf in a few minutes!  so i had to convert it to make two loaves and i'm actually going to double this recipe and make 4 loaves in my giant bosch!  again, i apologize for the bosch snootiness.  this bread is such a perfect bread for anything from bread and butter (yum carbs!) with dinner to a healthy veggie sandwich ( superhero sandwich , anyone?). so thanks brown eyed baker for a delicious new oatmeal bread recipe.  and brown eyes?  awesome! makes 2 9x5 size loaves: 1 1/2 cups boiling ...

cornbread

i love cornbread.  i'm sure that's no surprise since i've already declared my love for all things bread and bread related.  i just can't eat chili without a good piece of cornbread with honey and butter.  i love this recipe and i've been using it a lot lately.  i used to buy the bag of dry cornbread mix and that tastes okay, but nothing beats scratch recipes!  this recipe doesn't take much longer to make and it's completely worth the extra minute or two!  it's deliciously moist and tender and squishes perfectly under your fork...i love squishing cornbread with my fork, do you?  Just make sure you warm your honey and drizzle over the top.  mmm... recipe adapted slightly from melskitchencafe.com ½ cup + 2 Tbsp. cornmeal 1 ½ cup flour 2/3 cup sugar 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup oil 3 tablespoons butter, melted 2 eggs, beaten 1 ¼ cup milk 1/3 cup frozen white corn (thawed) top with: warmed honey a pat of butter ...

dill breadtwists(pizza factory)

i love bread.  i love all kinds of bread.  warm or cold, white or wheat.  i make breadsticks quite often, especially when i need to jazz up some leftovers.  you see, i'm not really a leftover kinda girl.  i think i got that from my dad.  my dad can eat something one night but then must have a few days of space in between partaking of that same meal for a second time.  i used to think it was strange, and for some things i still do think it's strange (i think i could eat some form of cafe rio/taco salad every day of my life and never get sick of it).  but for leftovers, i wholeheartedly agree with my dad.  i need some space. unfortunately, i think i'm passing that on to my kiddos.  so lately when we've had leftovers in the fridge i've been making something new to add with those leftovers and it makes the meal brand new again.  isn't that exciting?  these breadsticks are so delicious, though, you might want to make them ev...

sesame bagels

i love a good bagel.  my kids love bagels of any sort.  and my better half will eat a half hard bagel toasted and brought back to life.  we're bagel kind of people.  i wish my waistline were more bagel friendly.  or maybe i wish that bagels were more waistline friendly!  ha!  but the really good news is that these are really a fun afternoon activity...even with kids.  they love rolling out the bagels and the love plopping them in the water to begin cooking.  it's just plain fun.  this recipe comes from one of my all time favorite books called "artisan bread in five minutes a day".  it's a good one to have on your shelf!  and the bread you'll make is impressive.  so if you're trying to impress people you should get this cookbook and then make the bread and bagels.  you'll be popular.  this is a simplified version of the original recipe: for the dough: 3 cups lukewarm water 1 1/2 T yeast 1 1/2 T ...

cinnabon cinnamon rolls

it's spring break here in our world and you know what that means, right?  a vacation to somewhere warm and sunny where you tan your pasty wintery skin, lay on warm sand, and take fun photos to share on your coveted blog.  well, not at this house!  not this year!  we're having a stay-cation.  so we're filling this week with adventures that are close to home.  and cinnamon rolls should be a part of any decent stay-cation.  just this morning we went for a long (very very very long for some shorter legs) run/bike ride all through our neighborhood and even through a neighboring city.  it was actually warm today and the sun actually appeared.  that's a christmas miracle in these parts lately.  (the news is actually talking about flooding from all our snow pack, can you believe that?) anywho, while we ran/biked, these babies were rising.  and after a fun filled camp-out in the family room overnight and some exercise this morning, we ...

quick and easy dinner rolls

I love homemade bread. i actually make it quite often and i have a lot of different recipes that i use depending on the time i have. i like bread in just about any form or flavor! i also really like cooking shows. imagine that! we switched our tv programming a while ago and had a short few months of the cooking channel. it's so fantastic and i fell in love with a bunch of shows just in time for the channel to be cut! i was lucky to be able to catch a few of kelsey nixon's shows " kelsey's essentials " and i really love her recipes. one of those recipes is this quick and easy bread recipe. when i first read it over after watching the show i couldn't believe the amount of yeast! it seemed like too much, so i cut it way back. the rolls were still delicious, but they didn't rise fast like they're supposed to. so my advice would be to use the exact recipe, yeast and all! and enjoy some for dinner tonight. or use the recipe for cinnamon rolls!...

Easiest Whole Wheat Bread

who doesn't love a good piece of whole wheat toast with butter and jam on it in the morning?  or better yet, a fresh, warm piece of bread with honeybutter on it?  this recipe makes a great basic whole wheat bread.  i got it from some friends in new orleans while we lived there, so it always brings back good memories for me whenever i make it.  isn't that how bread should be?  3½ cups whole wheat flour 1/3 cup gluten flour 1¼ Tbsp instant yeast (quick rise) 2½ cups steaming hot tap water (120-130 deg. F) (very hot to the touch) 1 Tbsp salt 1/3 cup canola oil 1/3 cup honey or 1/2 cup sugar or 1/3 cup molasses (measure out oil first, so the molasses doesn’t stick!) 1¼ Tbsp bottled lemon juice (or ½ a fresh lemon) 2½ cups whole wheat flour Directions: Mix together first three ingredients in mixer with a dough hook. Add water all at once and mix for 1 minute; cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Add salt, oil, honey/sugar/molasses and lemon juice an...
